Horace P. May, Jr.

Horace P. May, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 16, 2011. He was born October 14, 1949 in Nash County son of Bobbye Josey May and Horace P. May, Sr. He was preceded in death by his father. Horace was a member of Red Oak United Methodist Church and a Vietnam veteran. He worked for Masonite/International Paper in Momeyer for28 years and later fulfilled his dream of becoming a truck driver. He never met a stranger and will be truly missed by all that knew him.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 22 years, Martha Lowe May; children Karen Bottoms Gaither of Red Oak, Tommy Bottoms of Cary and Kristy May Wright of Sharpsburg; five grandchildren, Lauren Gaither of Wilmington, Caitlin Gaither of Red Oak, and Chelsea, D. J. , and Destiny Wright of Sharpsburg. Also surviving are his sister, Mary Jean Hunt (Steve) of Richmond, VA and his brother Bruce (Polly) of Roanoke Rapids; sisters in law Patty Fletcher of Rocky Mount and Karen Wallace (James) of Evans, GA, and brother in law Steve Lowe (Debbie) of Rocky Mount; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Smith and Matt Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 PM Tuesday. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the compassion and care shown to Horace by his cousin Phil May, and the Oncology nurses and aides at Nash General Hospital during hospital stays.

I wish words could make everything all right however, I know there are no words that can make that happen. Please know you are and have been and will continue to be in our prayers. We love you.

I will continue to lift you up in prayer daily. Horace was the most gentle person I have ever met. He was so genuine. I am reminded of this scripture. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28 May these words allow you to rest in God's arms in the upcoming days. You will be in my daily prayers.
