Fred Donald “Don” Melvin
Fred Donald Melvin, 79, passed away, Tuesday, August 23, 2011. He was born June 22, 1932 in Wilson County, the son of the late William and Oma Lucille Melvin. Donald enjoyed his family and sunny days on the Pungo River. After retiring as plant manager of N. Sumergrade, he accepted a position at Southern Quilters while operating Melvin Quilting Inc. He was a member of Ridgecrest Worship Center for over 70 years, where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Christian Education Board. Donald also served on the planning board of Rocky Mount and was a Gideon. He was preceded in death by his wife Hayes Melvin, a brother, William Edis Melvin and a step son Michael Gerald Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Michael Melvin and wife Donna of Nashville, one daughter, Pat Earp and husband Billy of Nashville, six grandchildren, Zachary and Michael Grant Melvin, Sherrie LeRoy and husband Earl, Will Earp and wife Lindsay, Kevin Williams and wife Frankie, Kristie Williams, four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Earp, Rachel and Chase Williams, two special friends, Anthony Murphy and Linda Lynch.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Nash General Hospital 4th floor staff, Doctor’s and Nurse’s and The Harvest Family Health Center pharmacy and medical team.
Funeral Service will be, Friday, August 26, 2011 at 7:00PM in the Chapel of Ridgecrest Worship Center at 7:00PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to service and following the service. Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Ridgecrest Worship Center Building Fund, 1120 West Mount Dr., Rocky Mount, NC 27803.
