Edward (Ray) Johnson

Edward Ray Johnson, 58, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2011at his home surrounded by family and friends. Ray was born in Nash County on August 4, 1952 to the late Margie Johnson Boyd and the late Durwood Johnson. Ray enjoyed bingo, fishing, working, and spending time with family and friends. He is best known for joking and having a good time. Ray was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He touched the lives of many people and will be greatly missed. Ray was an auto mechanic for Good Year for 17 years and at DJ’s Service Center most of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years Carla (Tess) Johnson; sons, Thomas Ellington II and Brian Francione of Boston, MA. ; daughter Stacie Weeks of Rocky Mount; two grandchildren, Kelsey Evans and Devin Evans of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Jean Synder and husband Robert of Greenville, NC and Margie Ann Boyd and partner Lynn of Greenville, NC; three brothers, Phillip Johnson and wife Rhonda of Mebane, NC, Thurston Boyd Jr. and wife Gina of Greenville, NC, and Bobby Johnson and wife Weiner of Rocky Mount, NC. Ray is also survived by a special mother-in-law and father-in-law, Larry and Frances Shearin of Rocky Mount, NC. Ray leaves behind his little sugar baby and companion (Cupcake) a white maltese. The family would like to give a special thanks to Donna, Jackie, Courtney, Chet, and all the other staff of Community Home Health and Hospice for their great care and comfort during Ray’s illness. Also, special thank you to Dr. David Browder and staff for all the special care given to Ray during his sickness.
Visitation will be held at Cornerstone Funeral Home Nashville, NC Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 7:00-8:30 pm. Graveside Service will be held at Rocky Mount Memorial Park on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Henry Abbott and Rev. Brandon Dees officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made in his honor to Calvary Baptist Church, 505 S. Englewood Drive Rocky Mount, NC 27804 or Community Home Health and Hospice, 3124 Zebulon Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804.

We send our deepest sympathy on the loss of your loved one!! Ray was a bright light of life. He loved to tell a joke and make you laugh. We have lost his laughter here on earth but God has him now. We miss you already Ray!! You keep 'em laughing until we all see each other again!!

I am so sorry to hear about Ray. I am going to miss our conversations and fixing him BLTs with extra mayo. He was my buddy and other boyfriend. He could always make me laugh. Tess - my heart goes out to you and the family.
