Wilbur Joseph Pendleton
Wilbur Joseph Pendleton departed to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 4:55PM, surrounded by his loving family in his home. Wilbur was born on March 16, 1938 in Franklin County. He was the son of the late Willie Newman Pendleton and Maebelle Wrenn P. Hardy, and was also step-son of the late John G. Hardy. Wilbur has lived in Nash County, Nashville, NC since the age of 9 years old. He graduated from Nashville High School in 1956. He played baseball and basketball. He attended Atlantic Christian College in Wilson and soon after he started a career with Burlington Industries. In the year 1965 he was employed with Planters National Bank for 23 and half years. From there Wilbur started an entirely new career with the Judicial Center, the State of NC as a Nash County Magistrate for 22 and half years. Wilbur retired December 31, 2009 at the age of 71. Wilbur began a service for his country on April 9, 1960 in the Army, heavy artillery and was discharged on December 7, 1966. Over the years he served in many leadership roles; Lions Club and a Charter member of the North Nashville Ruritan Club, where he served as president on several occasions. Wilbur was an active member of Englewood Baptist Church, where he was currently serving as a Deacon. Wilbur’s true spirit was revealed in his love for his family. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Mary Helen Nelms Pendleton; his daughter, Glenda Pendleton Davis and husband Paul; his daughter, Linda Pendleton Sheets and husband Wesley; three wonderful granddaughters, Christian Leigh Davis, age 18 and a freshman at UNC Wilmington; Meredith Anne Davis, age 16 and a junior at Nash Central High School; and Allison Elizabeth Sheets, age 3 and attending her second year of preschool at the Nashville United Methodist Church; two brothers, Louis Pendleton and wife Peggy; Wayne Hardy and wife Diane; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive guests and friends from 6:00-8:00PM, Tuesday October 11, 2011 at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville, NC. A service to celebrate his life here on earth will be held Wednesday October 12, 2011 at 11:00AM in the Chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with Doctor Michael Cloer officiating, Senior Pastor of Englewood Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery of Nashville.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill for making his last days as comfortable as possible, and to thank 3HC Home Health and Hospice for all the compassionate care they offered Wilbur and the family.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Englewood Baptist Church or the family at 1658 Red Oak Road, Nashville, NC 27856.
So sorry to hear of your loss. You have been in our prayers and will continue to be during your loss. It is hard to let go of a loved one, you will miss them, but knowing you will see them again where they do not suffer.

Know that our family will continue to pray for all of you in the coming days and weeks. This poem is one of my favorites, I hope it will become as meaningful for you as it has for me.

The Plan Of The Master Weaver
Our lives are but fine weavings,
That God and we prepare,
Each life becomes a fabric planned
And fashioned in His care.
We may not always see just how
The weavings intertwine,
But we must trust the Masters hand
And follow His design,
For He can view the pattern
From the upper side,
While we must look from underneath
And trust in Him to guide.
Sometimes a strand of sorrow
Is added to His plan,
And though its difficult for us,
We still must understand
That its He who fills the shuttle,
Its He who knows whats best,
So we must weave in patience
And leave to Him the rest
Not till the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why
The dark threads are as needed
In the Weavers skillful hand
And the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Mary Helen and Wilbur's family,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have good memories of Wilbur when we would visit John and Maebelle back in our early years. Wilbur was a very outgoing and kind person. As I recall Wilbur was always optimistic and made everyone feel welcome. Even though we have not seen each other in far too many years,I can envision Wilbur as a person that enjoys helping others. Wilbur was certainly a good person. Once again, my wife and I extend to you and your family our sincere condolence!
