Wesley Neil Matthews

Wesley Neil Matthews, 76, passed away April 21, 2022. He was born July 4, 1945, in Nash County to the late Thomas Eli and Nancy Green Matthews. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers Atlee Matthews and Russell (Doris) Matthews. He leaves his wife Shelby Jones Matthews to cherish his memories and his children Brent Thomas Matthews and wife Sara, Melody Matthews Carter and husband Scott, and Patrick Neil Matthews and wife Anna. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Noah Thomas Matthews, Chloe Elizabeth Carter, Samuel Eli Matthews, Hannah Grace Matthews, and Colton Scott Carter. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Pat Renfrow and husband Jan and Dorothy Matthews, brothers-in-law AlgieJones, Jr. and wife Ina, Rex Jones and wife Elaine, and Kim Jones and wife Tracie and many nieces and nephews. A visitation with family and friends will be Monday, April 25, 2022, at Englewood Baptist Church in Rocky Mount from 10:00-10:45 am. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with Dr. Chris Aiken officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Englewood Baptist Church.
