Benjamin Thomas "Tom" James

Benjamin Thomas “Tom” James passed away Wednesday May 23, 2018 in his home to the eternal place of heaven. He was born February 14, 1931 in Martin County to the Late Gaston and Mamie Mobley James. He graduated from Robersonville High School. After high school Tom was drafted into the US Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. Following his military service Tom attended East Carolina College and graduated with a BS in Business Administration. He never forgot his roots. His values of honesty, responsibility and hard work followed him throughout his life. Retiring from the NC Department of Revenue after 36 years of service and was given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He then continued to work Part time for Jordan and Bass CPA for many years. Also during his retirement, he enjoyed his time of playing golf at Birchwood Country Club which he was a member for over 50 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Brad James and his brothers Furney James and George James. He leaves to cherish his memory, his Loving wife of 54 years Retha Kermon James, Son Brian Thomas James and wife Tammy. His granddaughter Baileigh Noell James. Sister Barbara Griffin of Jamesville, NC and Brother Ted James and Wife Carolyn of Williamston, NC. Sisters in Law Marlene James of Williamston, NC Elsie Rae James of Birmingham, AL and Jean Woodcock of Holly Springs, NC. Also a number of nieces and nephews. Tom’s funeral will be held Saturday May 26, 2018 at Englewood Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:45 with his Service being held at 12:00 at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount, NC. Family will be at the residence during other times. The family would like to thank Dr. David Browder for his service and support over the years and especially the last few months. Also for his care giver Penny Denton with her help and support during the last few months. The family will accept flowers or contributions made to Englewood Baptist Church designated for sending children to summer camps.
