Daniel "Danny" Lee Batchelor

Daniel “Danny” Lee Batchelor, 72, passed away on June 12, 2024. Born in Nash County on June 21, 1951, and weighing less than 3 pounds, Danny came into the world with an undeniable spirit and relentless determination to live life. The son of Woodrow Wilson Batchelor and Rachel Dixie Thompson Batchelor, now deceased, Danny grew up on the family farm in the Sandy Cross Community. While he did not make farming his life’s work, he did love and cherish its beauty, remaining on the farm his entire life. Danny was a creative and thoughtful person and took his many talents into the workplace. He worked at several places, among them were Morgan Imports and Peddler’s Village. His final work years were spent at Belk, where he consistently demonstrated, “The customer is always right.” Danny also loved his church family, Sandy Cross Methodist Church. Each year he looked forward to decorating the church grounds to glorify God and bring beauty to the people who came to worship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmie Woodrow Batchelor and a nephew, Mark Woodrow Batchelor. Left to cherish his memories are his sister, Vickie Batchelor Wells (John), sister-in-law, Wanda Smith Batchelor, an aunt, Audrey Thompson (Beth), nephews, J. F. Batchelor, Jeffrey Ballance (Alta), a niece, Olivia Wells (Chad Rappleyea), and numerous cousins, great nephews, and great nieces. There are a number of special people who have stayed the course of friendship and love over the years: Tom, Mike, Darrell, Evelyn, Claire, James, Van, Jill, Martha and Steve. Special thanks go to the UNC Transplant Team, UNC Hospitals, SECU Hospice Home of Smithfield, Laura Cramer (Transplant Case Manager), Dr. Tammy Kiger and the many wonderful health care providers.. Graveside services are planned for Saturday, June 15 at 11 AM at the Batchelor Family Cemetery (located on Winstead Store Road, off Highway 58 S) with Reverend Judson Dunlap officiating. Flowers are welcome, as are contributions to Sandy Cross Methodist Church.
