David "Pacman" Ray Braswell

David "Pacman" Ray Braswell, 63, passed away March 1, 2024 in Castalia, NC--the town he dedicated his heart to serving--after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born July 20, 1960 to the late Marvin Ray and Virginia "Ellen" Chappell Braswell, both of Nash County. David is survived by his wife of 14 years, Rachel Braswell; his daughters Jenny Braswell, Leslie Lancaster Davis, Priscilla Braswell, Deborah Sullivan, and Nikki Fly; grandchildren Elijah, Raiden, Esme, Reid, Colton, Adelyn, and Ryleigh; brothers Cliff Braswell (Kim) and Scott Braswell; sister Hope Bone; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who were as close and loved as family. A long-time electric lineman who spent many years traveling across the southeast in response to natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods until his health would no longer allow, David found ways to serve others and the Lord wherever he went. In addition to 38 years with Castalia Fire Department as a firefighter and first responder, he has been an emergency medical technician (EMT) in Wake County and for West Edgecombe, drove a bus providing free dental service, participated in motorcycle benefit rides and projects, was a youth pastor and chaplain, participated in community and church service and ministry projects, and worked maintenance for the Town of Castalia. David never met a stranger, no matter how far from home he was, and the bonds of Bible, bikes, and badges were as important to him as those of blood. The family would like to thank his friends, Castalia Fire Department, the community, and the public servants of Nash and the surrounding counties for their outpouring of support for David over the last few months. His sincerest hope was that his life and death would be a testament of the power and comfort of faith, and because of your encouragement and gifts of time and thoughts, he passed wrapped in the knowledge of your love and with Blessed Assurance that he will see you in the next life. A special thank you to Gentivia Hospice and nurse Janice. Visitation will be held 6:00pm-8:00pm on Monday, March 4, 2024 at Cornerstone Funeral Home. A service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the funeral home with Rev. Ted Jones and Rev. Frankie Carroll officiating. Burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
