Oris Grady Evans

Oris Grady Evans son of the late Rev. Oris Evans and Lucy Harris Evans was born June 16, 1935., in Halifax County, North Carolina. He departed his earthly life on Monday, June 27, 2022, at his home. He joined St. Paul Baptist Church as a youngster. He later joined Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. On November 15, 1952, married his sunshine, Christine Silver-Evans. They moved to Washington, DC in 1954 where he begin working at the Willard & Sheraton Hotels and American Security Bank. He drove for the Yellow Cab Company. Cab #550 until his retirement in 1994. After his retirement he returned to Hollister, North Carolina. He began driving the bus for Warren County Public Schools and was later employed with C.T. Wilson Construction Company . In 1997, he found his happy place when he gained employment with Waste Industries at the Warrenton Site until he retired in June 2018. He often volunteered annually at the Haliwa-Saponi Tribe Pow-Wow until his health begin to decline. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood, his life in Washington, DC, listening to blues, country and gospel music. Most of all he loved talking about family and past times. He was a walking history book and was remarkable at remembering everyone's birthdate. He was proceeded in death by his son Grady Michael Evans & ten siblings, Clarence, Florence, Samuel Arvell, Roxie Adele, Charlie, Rudolph, Levonia, Pattie Hortense, Mannis (M.H.), William Clinton & Robert Lewis and his loving furbaby Jackie. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife of 69 years , Christine of the home. HIs children, Randy (Velma) Evans of Nashville, NC , Bryan Keith Evans of the home, Cynthia Evans, Iris Gail (Elliott) Evans and Karen (Wesley) Dale all of Hollister, NC. Timothy (Angela) of Los Angeles, California. Eight Grandchildren; Jasmine (Paul), Shana (Danny), Ingrid, Mikey, Elliott, Oris, Chrissy (Neise), Natalie, David & Lateshia. Fifiteen Fifteen Great Grandchildren; Jaiden, Daniel, London, Payten, Uriah, Max, Hazel, Prince, Carter, Aviah, Caiden, Penelope, Paris, Azariah, Jeriah & Will. One sister, Ethelene Silver of Castalia, North Carolina. Two nephews who were raised as bothers Clay P. Evans & Marvin Bailey Evans both of North Carolina. Two sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Lee Silver & Betty Silver of Warrenton, NC; a host of many special neices and nephews, special cousins, friends and his Journigan's morning coffee crew, whom he loved deeply. A visitation with family and friends will be Friday, July 1, 2022 from 6:00-7:30pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home of Nashville. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 2:00pm in Hollister, NC at Mount Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pine Chapel Cemetery.
