Owen Daniel “Dan” House, 84, of Littleton, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023.He was born on March 26, 1939, in Nash County, to the late James Elmo and Pearl Boone House. Dan was preceded in death by his brother, James Merritt "Jim" House. Dan was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Dan was a skilled handyman who had a passion for fixing things. Whether it was repairing a broken appliance or tinkering with his tools in the garage, Dan loved the satisfaction of making things work again. He generously shared his skills with neighbors, friends and family and assisted with their renovations, home repairs and appliance repairs. Whether it required woodworking, structural design, metal fabrication or parts made from his 3D printer, he could accomplish any repair. He also had a deep connection with the water and enjoyed spending time boating. His father, brother and he built the Lake Gaston home starting in the late 1960s and the house was a central place for family and friends to come together on weekends. Dan took his love of sailing and parlayed it into a side business of selling Hobie Cat sailboats in the 1970s. His Hobie Cat sailboat was the first one at Lake Gaston and one of the first on the east coast as the Hobie Cat originated on the west coast. He also enjoyed sailing the intracoastal waterway and solo navigated his 32’ sailboat, “Undulation”, from Annapolis, MD to Washington, NC. He is survived by his children, James "Jim" (Carol) House, Dana House (Vince) Luciani, and Stephen (Ursula) Goadhouse, as well as his eight cherished grandchildren: Kathleen House, Andrew House, Sarah Frances House, Gabriel Luciani, Lena Luciani, Vinny Luciani, Rumi Goadhouse, and Zach Goadhouse. Dan's memory will be forever treasured by his family. Services will be held on Saturday October 14, 2023. A brief graveside service will be held at 10 am, Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville, NC. A memorial service will be celebrated at 3 pm, West Raleigh Presbyterian Church, 27 Horne St., Raleigh, NC with a reception following the service. The SECU Hospice House in Smithfield provided compassionate care and support to Dan during his final days, and any donations made in his memory would be greatly appreciated. Dan House will be remembered for his friendliness, his skilled hands, and his love for his family. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made a lasting impact on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
