Alda Ellen Jones

Alda Ellen Jones of Nashville, NC died October 27, 2016 in Raleigh, NC. Alda was born February 29, 1920 in Nashville, NC. She was a graduate of Nashville High School, Peace College, and Hardbarger Business College. After her education was completed, she worked in Raleigh at the Department of Motor Vehicles, North Carolina Prison Department, and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. She then returned to Nashville and worked for a number of years for the Honorable Harold D. Cooley and the Cooley and May law firm. She also served in several additional positions including as a columnist for the Nashville Graphic and as Nashville’s Acting Postmaster. For many years prior to her move to Raleigh in 2009, Alda was active in her community serving as a member of the Nashville Planning Board, Nash-Edgecombe Legal Secretaries, Nash General Hospital Auxiliary. She was also Program Chairman of the Nashville Bicentennial. She was a member of the Pilot Club and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. An active member of Nashville United Methodist Church, Alda was a choir member, served on the Board of Stewards, and was a Trustee. She was a good friend to many, a devoted volunteer in her community, an engaged, supportive family member, and an enthusiastic bridge player. Alda was predeceased by her parents George Louis and Martha Eula May Jones of Nashville, NC, and her sisters Eula Mae Jones Auman of Sanford and Corinne Jones Eubanks of Monroe, NC. She is survived by her niece Martha Eubanks of Denver, CO, and nephews Tom Eubanks of Charlotte, NC; Louis Eubanks of Indian Trail, NC; Graham Auman and George Auman and wife Kathy of Raleigh, NC. Many great and great- great nephews and nieces also survive. The family is especially grateful to Brighton Gardens of Raleigh for the care and happiness Alda found there. The service celebrating Alda’s life will be at 2 Pm on Monday, October 31 at Nashville United Methodist Church. Visitation will follow the service.
