Macon Ray Robertson

Macon Ray Robertson died Monday, December 11, 2023 with his wife by his side. He was born August 29, 1936 in Halifax County. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine Smith Robertson, son Brad Robertson of Nashville, Granddaughter Lauren Robertson of West Hartford, Connecticut, Grandson Luke Robertson, of Garner (fiancée) Hannah Kellough. Macon grew up in the Darlington Community in Halifax County where he farmed with his uncles. In 1958 Macon married Elaine in the Darlington Baptist Church where they both were members. He worked at Harding and Grizzard, automotive parts until he was offered the job of store manager of Quality Sales Company, automotive parts of Nashville. In 1960, Macon and Elaine with new infant daughter, Lisa, moved to Nashville; at the time a small town of less than 1500 Citizens. Macon became active in the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, and the Nashville Jaycees, both of which he served as President. The highlight of his service to these organizations during this time was as Escort for President Harry Truman who visited Nashville for the Annual Harvest Festival at the invitation of then Congressman Harold D. Cooley. In 1964 Macon and his business partner, Jimmy W. Smith formed Robertson Realty Company. Together they began a construction business of apartments and residential houses. On December 22, 1964 they chartered Nash Triangle Development Corporation. In the eighties, as the licensed contractor, Macon began building in other areas: Halifax, Edgecombe, Wilson, Warren, Wake, and Carteret Counties. During this time, Macon was also active in the Rocky Mount Area Home Builders Association and served during a year as President. Macon enjoyed snow skiing and taking trips with Elaine and their friends to resorts such as Tahoe, Stowe, Snowshoe, Beech Mountain, and Wintergreen. He liked to fish and spend time with his grandchildren, Lauren and Luke and attending the many sport games in which they both participated. Macon was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lara Owens Robertson, his daughter, Lisa Rose Robertson, his mother, Mae Harlow Robertson and his step-father Jesse Mont Robertson, his brothers Danny Kaye Robertson and Jesse Alvin Robertson. Washington Drive Nashville, NC 27856 A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 2:00pm with Pastor Travis Crocker officiating at Rock Creek Baptist Church with visitation following. The family wishes to thank UNC Health Care at Nash and Autumn Care of Nashville for their kind and compassionate care during Macon’s illness and death.
