Sarah Malloy Jackson, 82, peacefully passed away 2/12/25 lovingly surrounded by her daughters, listening to her all-time favorite Elvis music. Sue was born 1/17/43 to John Henry Vick Jr and Gretchen Daniels Vick in Nash County, North Carolina. Survived by her daughter Brenda Tucci (Frank), daughter Miriam Grossman Rodriguez (Pedro), grandson Joseph Rodriguez (Angela), grandson David Rodriguez (Erin), granddaughter Michelle Cuttler, grandson Robert Cuttler (Shea), great granddaughters, Claire and Shelby, and her furry baby, London. The family is extremely grateful for her caregiver Vicky, whom Mom adored, and the caring staff of Heaven Hospice. Sue, a true Southern woman, was a fantastic cook who delighted her family with delicious meals every opportunity. Her homemade buttermilk biscuits, blueberry preserves, and sweet potato bread were always eagerly awaited teats. Sue’s passion for food extended beyond her home. She managed several diners over the years eventually owning one of her own, “The Grille” in Benson NC. Her daughters, Brenda and Miriam, cherished their time in the kitchen with her. Brenda would even join her at 3 am to make the best buttermilk biscuits in Benson. Miriam loved learning Southern cooking from her. Sue was a hard worker and a vibrant woman who lived life to the fullest. After being widowed, she found love again with her high school sweetheart, enjoying many happy years together. She worked tirelessly throughout her life, finally retiring to care for her beloved Clayton “Moose” Varnell when he needed her. After his passing in 2009, she moved to Gainesville to live with her daughter Brenda. Mom brought her tiller and tractor and made a little one-acre garden. Many enjoyed the fruits of her labors. Brenda got her through breast cancer, and many small illnesses, she kept her going for a long time. Family was everything to Sue. She maintained close relationships with her children and grandchildren, and lovingly cared for her sister, Christine, during her illness. Her grandchildren, Joseph, David and Robert, cherished their summer visits to Grandma and Grandpa’s county home. Joseph and David especially loved playing with Bruno, the goats and cows, and riding the golf cart with Grandpa. Robert made sure to spend his summer vacations with them each year. Growing up on a farm instilled in Sue a deep love for nature. She had the most beautiful rose bushes and flower garden in Benson, people would drive by and ask to take pictures and she had a blue hydrangea bush as tall as her house. Sue loved animals and kept baby goats and calves, raised hens, and grew vegetables. Her tomatoes were outstanding. Sue loved everything Elvis and amassed quite a collection of memorabilia. She was one of a kind and we will dearly miss her. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, February17, 2025 at Varnell family Cemetery in Middlesex, NC .
