Thurman Reginald Pierce

Thurman Reginald Pierce passed away at his home on Friday, June 30, 2017 He was born in Hobgood, NC on March 25, 1927. His parents were the late William Thomas Pierce and Bessie Bell Pierce. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Staton Pierce, his sisters, Nannie Harris, Pattie Taylor and Sarah Riner, and his brothers, Wiley Pierce, Bill Pierce and Cornelius Pierce. Reginald’s entire career was driving trucks. Over the years he worked at North State Motor Lines, Long Manufacturing, Heavy Duty Electric and Carolina Freight. After retiring from Carolina Freight he worked parttime with Ryder. After retirement he and his wife enjoyed traveling , often taking their grandchildren with them. Over the years he enjoyed attending races at County Line Raceway, always taking a grandson with him. Most Saturday mornings he was at Oak Level Cafe with his friend, Roy Hedgepeth. He made sure he fed the birds and squirrels daily. Reginald was a gentle, easygoing man that never said a bad thing about anyone. He always wanted to help those who had less than him. Reginald is survived by his sons, TR Pierce, Jr of Jackson, WY and Kenny Pierce and his wife, Anne, of Nashville, his daughter, Brenda Cogdell and her husband, Haywood of Nashville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Anna Lowder (Eric) of Albemarle, NC, Lauren Chamberlin (Matt), of Leesburg, VA, Mark Cogdell of Wilmington, NC, Jessica Shearin (Charles), of Emerald Isle, NC, Wesley Cogdell (Brittany), of Stem, NC, Matthew Pierce (Malina) of Charlotte, NC, Nicole Wainright (Lee) of Rocky Mount and Robb Thompson of Rocky Mount. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thanks to his caregivers, Christine Southerland and Betty Creighton and to Nash General Hospice. Visitation will be Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 7:00-8:30pm at Cornerstone Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, July 3, 2017 with Ralph Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Hobgood Cemetary later in the afternoon. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Tri-County Industries, 1250 Atlantic Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC. 27801.
