Joseph Scott Moss

Joseph Scott Moss passed away peacefully on December 8, 2021 at the age of 51, at Duke Medicine Pavilion. His battle with Lyme disease, followed by double Covid Pneumonia and then surviving a double lung transplant showed how much of a fighter he was. Despite surviving the transplant and recovering well at home, Scott went into cardiac arrest and his body just simply could not fight any more. Scott is survived by his parents, Cliff and Jeannie Moss, his wife, Kim, daughter Courtney and son Kyle Moss, stepsons Travis and Garrett Monhollen, and four step grandchildren; Piper, Oakley, Charlotte and Jensi Monhollen. He is also survived by his brother Jimmy and nephew Matt Moss, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Scott is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Clifton and Francis Moss and maternal grandparents Jim and Bink Rexroad, and a very special cousin, Morsie Siron. He had a wonderful childhood with so many neighborhood friends that he stayed in contact with. Scott was very outgoing, adventurous and spent most of his life outdoors. He loved riding his ATV, spending quality time around the campfire with family and friends, and loved playing sports. Scott designed a Wiffle Ball Field for the neighborhood kids at his NC home. A golf course at the family property in West Virginia. He was a hard worker, and did not expect anything in return. He worked in pharmaceuticals all his life and made many friends along the way from Abbott, Hospira and GlaxoSmith Kline. He spent hours keeping the family property in West Virginia in good shape. Scott was musically talented and taught himself how to play the guitar. He loved singing with his wife, Kim and playing music with his children. Karaoke nights were a family favorite. He enjoyed life and family was a top priority. He was an excellent father. He had a special bond with both his children. He was always by Courtney’s side and was involved in her medical care throughout her whole life. He coached numerous baseball and basketball teams which kept him involved with his son Kyle. He was proud of where both Courtney and Kyle were headed for there future. He created a special bond with his step son Garrett and his step daughter Marissa. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Oakley. Playing cars was his favorite. His granddaughter Jensi was just getting to know how fun he was. He wanted to always make everyone happy and put others before himself. He was very close to his parents and was always there to lend a hand. He loved taking care of him. If you knew him, you knew he loved Andy Griffith. He loved quoting movie lines and trying to stump you with his quotes. He loved to travel and going sight seeing with his wife by his side. Throughout this battle he realized he needed a personal relationship with God. His faith is what got him through his daily challenges. He found true peace in his life. We can celebrate his life and know that he is no longer struggling and is at peace in his Heavenly home. “It Is Well” Scott will be honored in a celebration of life on December 11, 2021 at Rise Church in Rocky Mount, NC. Visitation will be from 12-1:45pm, followed by a service at 2pm led by Pastor and friend Jason Cockrell.
