Plummer Ricks Jr.

Plummer Ricks, Jr, son of the late Plummer Ricks and Mary Ricks, was born on January 21, 1948 in Rocky Mount, NC. He departed this life Sunday, November 22, 2015 in his home in Rocky Mount, NC. He was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Carolyn Ricks. Plummer was raised up in Nash County, NC. After graduating in 1966 from Nash Central High School, he joined the Army. He served in Vietnam, Philippines, and many times in Alaska. Plummer Jr served faithfully for 21years in the military until he retired as a Staff Sergeant. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as fishing, grilling, and the simple pleasures of family and life. Plummer would say, “I am just chilling” while watching westerns on TV; or listening to Gospel music by Sam Cooke. One of Plummer’s greatest joys was serving in the Food Distribution Ministry through Free Women in Christ. He served until his health failed him. It blessed him to bless others. He said, “Mama would have wanted me out here (serving food)”.After battling cancer several years, Plummer passed away peaceably. Plummer is survived by his wife, Marilyn Ricks. He leaves behind six loving children: Shelia Ricks Jones (Eric), Michael Ricks (Dalila), Tony Ricks, Joemer Ricks, George Ricks (Jamier), and Maria Ricks. Doris Whitaker, a devoted and loving friend of more than 15years is also left to mourn with four step-children (Sharon Whitaker Hedgepeth & Keith, Casandra Whitaker, Shwanna Whitaker, and Tobious Whitaker) that Plummer loved as his own. He leaves many grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; with a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He will be remembered by all his siblings; James Sessoms (Lena), Sidney Ricks (Cathy), Richard Ricks (Nannie), Jacqueline Richardson, Geraldine James (Alphonso), Linda Ricks, Dennis Ricks, James Ricks (Patricia), Marilyn Jackson (Raymond), Jesse Ricks, E-Dunnis Lynch (Shawanda), and Judy Ricks. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home of Nashville. Funeral service will be held immediately after visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cornerstone Funeral Home with Pastor Linda H. Taybron officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery of Nashville.
