Albert Thomas Batchelor

Albert Thomas Batchelor, beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, and hog farmer passed away on February 16, 2016 at the age of 68. He was born in Nash County on February 3, 1948 and was the son of the late William Thomas and Eunice Langley Batchelor. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Alvin Wayne Batchelor and Ralph Derwood Batchelor as well as his nephew, Travis Grant Batchelor. Albert leaves behind his loving family to cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Judy Green Batchelor. He is also survived by his three children, Stephanie Lynne Batchelor of Nashville, Jennifer Batchelor Attkisson (Ken) of Edenton, and Brian Thomas Batchelor (Jenni) of Nashville. He adored his five special grandchildren, Batchelor Page Attkisson, Annslie Brooks Attkisson, Ruffin Hedrick Attkisson, Emma Langley Batchelor, and Adeline Paige Batchelor. In addition, he leaves behind his loving brother and sister, Billy Ray Batchelor (Gail) of Enfield and Deborah Batchelor Kincheloe (John) of Rocky Mount. All of his nieces, nephews, and cousins were very special to him. From a young age, Albert was a hard worker and accomplished many great things in his lifetime. He has touched many lives near and far, through his many talents and interests, especially sports and farming. He graduated from Coopers High School in 1966. He was active in 4-H livestock and was a star on the basketball court. Albert went on to attend and play basketball at Atlantic Christian College. He graduated in 1970 and spent the next 34 years in education, both teaching and coaching basketball. At the same time, Albert was always farming. He has raised cattle and hogs, and was a lifelong volunteer and supporter of 4-H Livestock shows. Along with his son, Brian, he started Batchelor Show Pigs and bred numerous grand champion show hogs that have been shown all over North Carolina and throughout the U.S. He was most proud of his induction into the NC Livestock Hall of Fame in 2013. Albert’s favorite things to be called were daddy, granddaddy, coach and friend. All that knew and loved him would agree that he was an honest, faithful, and humble friend. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Nashville, NC at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 PM prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or donations in memory of Albert may be made to the North Carolina Agricultural Foundation, Inc., NC State, Campus Box 7645, Raleigh, NC 27695-7645. The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the staff of LifeCare Hospitals of NC, Nash General Hospice and Nash County Home Health Agency for the special care to Albert during his illness.
