JoAnn Barbee Corbett

JoAnn Barbee Corbett, 64, passed away June 9, 2023. She was born March 15, 1959 in Wilson, NC to the late Charles Ray Barbee and Maggie Renfrow Barbee Grimm. She was also preceded in death by special friend, Richard Bunn. Through JoAnn’s earlier life she worked for Silver Lake Seafood in Wilson, NC and then after their closing became self-employed for many years with her deceased husband, Ray as owners of Corbett Exxon in Wilson, NC. She worked managing Lone Star Steak House for several years. She then became self-employed again with a house cleaning service and if you were fortunate enough to use her you knew nothing was left undone. JoAnn always worked extremely hard throughout her entire life and tried to please all. She didn’t take time for many hobbies but had a love for the ocean and would visit when time permitted, which wasn’t often in her short life. Anyone who has a passion slow down and enjoy before it’s too late. JoAnn was a very loving and caring individual and she loved her two sons, her family and friends immensely. She had a servant’s heart for anyone in need and would help when possible. JoAnn is already missed by all who knew her. Her death has broken many hearts. JoAnn leaves to cherish her memory, her sons Danny Garris, Jr. and Michael Garris; step daughter Susan Corbett; brothers, Jerry Barbee (Judy) and James “Boss” Barbee; sister, Etta Barkley (Keith); uncles, Osbourne Renfrow (Michele), Marion Renfrow; aunt, Carol Corbett; grandchildren, Tyler Garris, Kaelin Garris, and Carter Garris; friend, Kitty Wadsworth (Stephen). A graveside/inurnment service will be held at 10:30am at Kenly Cemetery on June 17, 2023. The family would like to thank the Fire Department First Responders, EMS personnel, the doctors and staff in the Emergency room for diligently trying to save our family member’s life and for the attentive care given to us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the American Heart Association, Diabetes Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
