Lance Edward Rickman

Lance Edward Rickman was born on September 25, 1942 in Chicago Illinois to his loving parents, Edward E. Rickman and Malinda Rickman. Following the divorce of his parents, Lance (at age 7) and his sister, Sheryl, moved to Washington, D.C. to be reared by his father and his second mother, Lillian Rickman along with siblings, Stephen, Lorrie and George. Lance attended Parkside Elementary, Taft Junior High School, and McKinley Tech High School and later matriculated at Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland. Lance was always very popular amongst his peers and was known for his warmth, friendliness and style. At an early age, he showed an aptitude for driving and rebuilding cars that remained his passion throughout his life. Following college, he served honorably in the U.S. Army and National Guard for several years. Lance’s passion for cars directed him to a career in automobile sales where he excelled at a number of dealerships in the Washington, D.C. area. In 1979, Lance married his soulmate, Evangeline (Van) and started a new chapter in his life as “Husband” and “Dad”. Lance’s love of cars led him to become a collector and race car driver, a passion both he and Van shared. They built and raced corvettes across the country, winning numerous awards and accolades. They were members of the United Council of Corvette Clubs. After living in the DC/Maryland area for several years, the couple moved to North Carolina, purchased a home, and built and operated a used car business. Lance was a kind and generous man, loved by all who knew him. He never spoke an unkind word about anyone, and was always ready to assist and stand by those in need. He was jovial, loquacious almost to a fault, and an accomplished storyteller. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Rickman, mother Malinda Rickman Mackey, and sister, Sheryl Rickman. Lance passed into eternity on March 24, 2018 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Evangeline Rickman, stepmother, Lillian Rickman, son Michael Harrell (Daniella) daughter, Tia Harris, Troy Boone, nephew/son, grandchildren, Kayla, Jordan and Alexa, mother-in-law, Myrine Boone, siblings, Marsha Pitts, Stephen Rickman (Linda), Lorrie Rickman Jones (Emil), George Rickman, brother-in-law, Willie Boone Jr., sisters-in-law, Betty Richardson (Dewey) and Dorothy King, two aunts, Doris Richardson and Pearl Young. Lance had a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He had two favorite pets, “Cowboy” and “Jada”. Visitation with family and friends will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 12:30-1:45 PM at Cornerstone Funeral Home with funeral service will to follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Thomas Richardson officiating.
