Michelle New Sager

Michelle New Sager, beloved wife and mother, died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at her Rocky Mount home following a prolonged illness. Born March 20, 1961 in Washington, D.C., Michelle was the daughter of Dr. David J. Luck, D.D.S., and Barbara Hoagland Luck. She grew up in Metairie, Louisiana, and graduated in 1979 from St. Martin’s Episcopal School. She attended Louisiana State University and went on to serve 18 years as a doula and licensed midwife practitioner. As a homeschool mother, Michelle served four years in leadership positions with the Baton Rouge area homeschool organization. Michelle later taught at the Medical Training College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After Michelle moved to Rocky Mount in 2004, she opened The Massage Clinic where she practiced as a licensed massage therapist for 10 years. She entered Nash Community College in 2012 and served as the president of the school’s Student Nurses Association in 2014. Michelle and her husband, Jeff Sager, joined Church on the Rise in Rocky Mount in 2005. She loved her church family and appreciated the church’s affection and support. Michelle sang with the Baton Rouge Symphony and Chorus, the Tar River Orchestra and Chorus, the Jazz Tones Quartet with the Tar River Swing Band, the Tar River Christmas Chorus, and the Church on the Rise Praise and Worship Team. She also enjoyed cooking and watercolor painting. Among the joys of Michelle’s life was spending time with her grandchildren. Michelle’s survivors include her husband Jeff Sager of Rocky Mount, her two sons and a daughter and their families: Jason New of Baton Rouge Louisiana, his wife, Katie, and their children Jack Watson, Nora Watson, and Charlotte New; Jady New of Denham Springs, Louisiana and his wife, Dawn, and their daughter Audrey New. Hope New Proctor, her husband, Brad, of Greenville, NC, and their children Christian Proctor, Opal Proctor, and Seth Proctor. She also leaves her four stepsons and step-daughter: David Sager, and his wife, Lora, of Greenville, NC and their children, Isaac and Elissa Sager, Daniel Sager of Anchorage, Alaska, Jared Sager, of Greenville, NC, Jacob Sager, of LaGrange, NC, and Janna Sager, of Greenville, NC; She also leaves her brother, John Luck of Kansas City, Kansas; and her sister, Kelly Biondolillo of Bentonville, Arkansas, also survived by brother-in-law, James Sager and wife Rebecca Baggett of Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents. To honor Michelle’s memory, a service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2015, at the Church on the Rise, 3520 Bishop Road, Rocky Mount. Pastor Richard Gurganus will officiate. The family will receive friends and neighbors at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Flowers can be sent to Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1052 S.
