Richard Glenn Ricks

Richard Glenn Ricks was born on August 21, 1951 in Rocky Mount, NC. Richard was called by his middle name, Glenn by many friends, church family and relatives. He was the fourth child to the late Mary Easter and Plummer Ricks of Rocky Mount, NC. He was educated in the Nash-Rocky Mount Public School System. He went into the U.S. Army on March 1971 where he served as a Military Police (MP). After he got out of the Army, he moved to New Jersey and gave his heart to the Lord in July 1973. During his early Christian service, he taught 4th to 6th grade Sunday School. He was president of Calvary Pentecostal Church choir and joined the Church Witnessing Team. He also worked with disadvantaged neighborhood children. It was at Calvary Pentecostal Church that he met Nannie James of Paterson, New Jersey. On September 12, 1981 he and Nannie married. God blessed them with two wonderful children: Richard Glenn Ricks II and Keersten Michelle Ricks. Richard and his family moved to Rocky Mount, NC in early 1990. There, he joined Nashville Praise and Worship Center, today known as Fellowship Church of Nashville, NC. Richard was nominated to serve as a member of the Church Board and later was given the privilege of Head Elder. In 2007 he started a Christian Car Club, Blazin Chariots, emphasizing fellowship and meeting needs of the community. He was one of the leaders of the church neighborhood witnessing team and led a marriage encouragement seminar. For approximately 20 years he was involved in the Nash Correctional Prison Ministry. Until declining health, he taught weekly Bible Studies at Trinity Villa Assist Living, Richardson Court Housing Project and read books he wrote to senior citizens in Autumn Care and Hunter Hill Rehab Center. He was employed for 20 years at S.B. Thomas Bakery and Kaba Ilco for 24 years. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Nannie; son, Richard Glenn II (Joanna); his daughter, Keersten Michelle (Logan); five sisters, Rev. Jacqueline Richardson of Castalia, NC; Geraldine James (Alphonso) of Greensboro, NC; Linda Ricks of Nashville, NC; Marilyn Jackson (Raymond) of Spring Hope, NC; and Judy Ricks of Rocky Mount, NC. Six brothers, Sidney Ricks (Cathy) of Rocky Mt., NC; Dennis Ricks, Nashville, NC; James Ricks (Patricia) Portsmouth, VA; Jessie Ricks of Rhode Island; James Sessoms (Lena) Nashville, NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brother Plummer Ricks Jr. and sister Carolyn Ricks. Visitation with family and friends will be Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 12:00-12:45 PM with funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Michael Johnson officiating at Fellowship Church of Nashville.
