Shelton Percy Manning

Shelton Percy Manning was born on June 13, 1932 and went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2021. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 72 years, Evelyn Lois Manning and four sons: Steve (JoJo) Manning, Gary (Sandra) Manning, Randy Manning, and Mark (Brenda) Manning. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren that meant the world to him: Sherri (Scott) Wells, Wayne (Courtney) Manning, Brent (Pepper) Manning, Jennifer (Joe) Dees, Katie (Matt) Wilson, Grace Manning, Joy (Jared) Kleman, and Melody (Andrew) Orser. He had seventeen great-grandchildren that brought him such joy: Lauren (Brandon) Pitts, Lindsey Wells; Eli, Anna Thomas, and Andrew Manning; Levi, Titus, Jude and Hazel Wilson; Davis and Charlotte Manning; Adah, Evey, Elly and Isla Dees; and Wesley and Wyatt Kleman. He was preceded in death by his parents Percy Morris Manning and Mary Louise Manning and siblings Elza (Hazel) Manning and Ruth (Edward) Hendricks. During his 89 years, farming was his occupation, hobby, and life. From a hand plough to an air conditioned, auto-steer tractor, he saw many changes. He was a role model for hard work, integrity, and determination in farming. From his humble beginning, he provided for his family and gave jobs to many throughout the years. He never felt that people worked for him, but that he was grateful to work with them. Shelton gave this effort into helping the community, too. He was a charter member of the Momeyer Volunteer Rescue Squad and was the Chief of the Momeyer Rescue Squad for four of those years. Also, he was a Charter Member of the Momeyer Volunteer Fire Department. Along with these achievements, he dedicated many years in service as a deacon at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church. He served with gladness and loved his church family all through the years. But, mostly, it is the memories he’s left as husband, Daddy, Granddaddy and Pa to his family that will be most treasured. He was our rock and he left us a legacy that will never be forgotten in our hearts. Some of his last words were “I don’t know why God blessed me with such a great family. I love my family." The funeral will be at Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist Church, 1779 Mt Zion Road, with Pastor Mark Manning and Pastor Heyward Watford officiating on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 11:00am. The service will be on Facebook Live and can be heard on 91.5 FM in the church parking lot. The graveside service and family visitation will follow the funeral at the church.
